Influence of compost application on growth and phosphorus exploitation of ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.)
Scherer, H.W.(University of Bonn (Germany). Agricultural Faculty)E-mail:[email protected]
A greenhouse experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of compost (stability classes III and V) on the growth and P utilisation of ryegrass (Lolium perenne cv. Turilo). The compost application resulted in a significant yield increase. The application of class V compost led to higher yields and P uptake than did class III compost. The P utilisation by the ryegrass ranged between 8.5 and 104.0% in the first year of compost application. In total (sum of two years) it was 37.8 and 204.5%. On the basis of total compost P, P utilisation ranged between 3.6 and 22.1%.
