Community institutions in resource management: agroforestry by mobisquads in Ghana.
1991
Dorm-Adzobu, C. | Ampadu-Agyei, O. | Veit, P. G.
Results are reported from a study based on the village of Goviefe-Agodome and its community development activities by the local 'mobilization squad', including establishment of an agroforestry farm (mainly intercropping) and a tree nursery. Mobisquads were originally established as volunteer development groups by the National Mobilization Programme of 1984, which was later overseen by the Ministry of Mobilization and Social Welfare (set up in 1987), which called for the transformation of mobisquads into agricultural self-development cooperatives. Core elements of effective resource management, and the implications for policy and decision makers are discussed.
