Vegetation-mapping of the Kis-Balaton Water Protection System (KBWPS) is completed with investigation of biomass, and element content of macrophytes, respectively, since 2001. The purpose is to estimate the role of macrophytes in the nutrients' cycle of the KBWPS with a special regard to its main goal, the retention of phosphorus as high degree as it possible at all. 10% of the estimated phosphorus content of 128 tons in the biomass of 50,000 tons d.w. were accumulated by the aquatic weeds.
