Forest conversion into other land uses, cause degradation of land, result some marginal land. Forestry development either intensification or extensification directed to use these lands. Generally soil in marginal land have low fertility. Due to the very high rainfall in tropical countries, including Indonesia, erosion of these lands cause loss of soil nutrient and organic matter. The loss of nutrient can be improved through addition of fertilizers and the loss of organic matter has to recover by adding some organic matter into the soil. This research aims to identify the influence of vertical mulch to erosion, run-off and nutrient loss. Research was done by making channel across slope at 60 cm depth and 30 cm width. The distance between channels were 9, 6 and 3 meter respectively. Mulch were put along the channel. The result indicated that the treatment of vertical mulch could reduce run off and erosion, and increased the loss of nutrient such as N, P, K and Ca. It is suggested that the 6 meter distance between channel can be used for development of forest plantation
