Effect of plant age and part of plant on the yield and characteristic of lemongrass oil

Distillation experiment on two kinds of lemongrass (C. flexuosus and C. citratus) was conducted at Postharvest Laboratory RISMC. The aim of the experiment was to find out the influence of species, plant age and part of plant on the yield and characteristics of the oil produced. The treatments applied were: 2 species of lemongrass (C. flexuosus and C. citratus), plant age (6, 12 and 16 months), part of plant material (leaf and stem). The design used was Completely Randomized Design arranged factorially. Result of the experiment showed that the oil yield of C. flexuosus was higher than the oil yield of C. citratus. The oil yield was fluctuated influenced by harvest time, where the one harvested at 6 months after planting was higher than the one harvested at 12 months. However the one harvested at 18 months was higher than the one harvested at 12 months. The oil yield of leaf material was higher than the oil yield of stem material. The specific gravity and sitral content of the produced from stem was higher than the one produced from leaf. Sitral content of the oil is fluctuated influenced by harvest time. The one harvested at 6 months after painting was higher than the one harvested at 12 months and the last was lower than the one harvested at 18 months
