Many efforts have been made to develop peatland for agriculture, but many of these attempts have been unsuccessful. It is important to conduct soil survey and land evaluation before developing peatland for agriculture, but unfortunately the existing land evaluation methodology frequently resulted in land suitability classes, which are not in accordance with crop production. This is partly because of the untested selection of the land characteristics and their criteria to determine suitability classes. For this reason, research to develop criteria for land suitability evaluation of peatland is important. The objectives of this research were: (1) to study the characteristics of peatland that significantly affect the growth and production of corn; (2) to develop criteria for peatland characteristics, so that the land suitability classes are in accordance with the growth and production of corn. Correlation and stepwise regression analysis showed that the land characteristics that significantly affected growth and production of corn included pH-H20, pH-CaC2, available P (P205), base saturation (BS), cation exchange capacity (CEC), exchangeable Ca, Mg, K, Na, Al, H, available (Fe, Cu, Zn, and Mn), electrical conductivity (EC), and ash content.
