Growth stimulation of mangosteen by double rooting from related species of Garcinia and plastic cover

The research was conducted in screen house of Research Institute for Fruit (RIF) Solok from June to December 2001 using Split Plot Design with three replications. Main plots were: (1) mangosteen seedling placed in screen house and (2) mangosteen seedling placed in plastic cover with rice stalk in screen house. The subplots were double rooting: mangosteen seedling with one rooting system as control and mangosteen seedling with double rooting by Garcinia mangostana; Garcinia dulcis, Garcinia celebica; Garcinia porrecta; kandis besar, kandis sedang and kandis pipih. Parameters observed were plant height, leaf number and stem diameter. The result indicated that mangosteen seedling in plastic cover in screen house growth was faster compared with mangosteen seedling in screen house. The growth of mangosteen seedling with double rooting was faster than mangosteen seedling with one rooting system
