Land evaluation of Kabupaten Pasir, East Kalimantan (Indonesia)

The study was conducted in Kabupaten Pasir, Kalimantan Timur from June to September 2002. Data of soil characteristic and climate were obtained from Pusat Penelitian dan Pengembangan Tanah dan Agroklimat Bogor. Data of digital maps were analyzed using software of Geographic Information System (GIS). Evaluation of land suitability were analyzed using software of Expert System "Crop Suitability and Agriculture Systems in the Tropics" developed by Dr. Le Istiqlal Amien. Result showed that the area of Kabupaten Pasir mostly flat and some area covered by mangrove and reserved as protected area. There is much kind of crops which is suitable to this area, and the suitability is grouped according to soil mapping group
