Sand mining by people for sedimentation control in the Palu River downstream (Central Sulawesi, Indonesia)

English. This research was conducted at up stream of Palu river starting from July to October 2001. The research aims at to know the effect of sand mining at up stream of Palu river in arranging the sedimentation. The analytic hierarchy process (AHP) used to identify the sedimentation condition in relation to the sand mining. The result of the study revealed that Palu river load sedimentation due to the impact of permanent erotion continuously. As consequence, the carrying capacity of Palu river will drop. Therefore, the sand mining is really useful and applicable in arranging the existence of sediment at the Palu river

Penelitian ini telah dilaksanakan di bagian hilir sungai Palu pada bulan Juli sampai Oktober 2001 yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui penambangan pasir yang dilakukan oleh masyarakat setempat dalam pengendalian keberadaan sedimen di bagian hilir sungai Palu. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teknik pengambilan keputusan rasional komprehensif atau Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keberadaan sedimen di bagian hilir sungai Palu sebagai akibat adanya dampak erosi permanen. Sebagai konsekwensinya, maka daya dukung atau kapasitas tampung dari sungai Palu dapat menurun
