Haemato-biochemical changes and efficacy of different acaricides in crossbred animals

Haematological and biochemical changes were evaluated in naturally tick infested crossbred cattle based on the treatment with 3 different acaricides, viz. ivermectin, amitraz and pestoban. Haemotological examination revealed a significant (P0.01) reduction in Hb, PCV, TEC and TLC in tick infested groups (2,3 and 4) as compared to control group (group 1). There was no significant (P0.05) changes in MCV, MCH and MCHC while the eosinophil count was significatly high (P0.01) in tick infested group than lymphocytes, neutrophils, and manocytes. Biochemical analysis revealed a significant (P0.01) decrease in total serum protein, albumin but nonsignificant difference in globulin and albumin: globulin ration. The efficacies of ivermectin, amitraz and pestoban were evaluated on the basis of ixodicidal activity and improvement in haemato-biochemical values where ivermectin treated group (group 2) showed higher efficacy against ticks and faster improvement in haemato-biochemical changes.
