Response of Azolla Pinnata and A. Microphylla to didderent temperature regimes

Plants of Azollo pinnata and A. microphyll were exposed to different temperature regiment ranging from 25% to 40?C and their effects were investigated on relative growth rate, pigment, total lipids, amount of total proteins and tissues phosphorous content. Relative growth rate of A.pinnata plants was more sensitive to higher temperature than that of A. microphyll a and b content increased at ? 35?C in A. pinnata and at 40?C in A. microphylla. Amount of anthocyanins decreased in A. pinnata after 24 h exposure at all temperatures. Increases in total lipids was noticed in A. pinnata over a broader range of temperature from 30?C to 40?C, while it was more only at 40?C in A. microphylla. Temperature stress also caused an increase in amount of total proteins in A. pinnata at ?35?C. Invariably, higher level of tissue phosphorous was noted in both the species at elevated temperatures.
