Scanning electron microscope observation of shrunk fruit peel in passion fruit and fresh keeping for fruit storage treated with film forming agent

The surface and sectional structures of the shrunk fruit peel in passion fruit, as observed using a scanning electron microscope, showed that there were many collapsing stomas, small cracks, thin wax-layer regions on it. The number of stomas per 1 square mm at the equator side of fruit peer were almost twice more than those of the peduncle and fruit apex side. Therefore, we supposed that the equator side of the fruit except the peduncle and fruit apex side was main region for the transpiration which causes the shrunk fruit. Overhead spraying the film forming agent, major component is paraffin wax 36%, against the preharvest fruit made the term of fresh keeping of fruit storage 3 - 4 day longer than that of fruit, using only the seal sticking without spraying the film forming agent.
