In 1998 and 1999, trials on furrow application of baked granular limecake, calcium carbonate and quicklime were conducted in transplanted (on site experiment and demonstration) and drilled sugar beet fields. The result was that application of baked granular limecake increased root yield as with other limes contrary to the non-application. Limecake is a by-product of sugar industry, but it is possible that limecake is utilized as lime materials. And it was recognized that root rot symptom tended to decrease upon lime application in the transplanting cultivation trials. However, this must be confirmed in the future.
