Gas exchange characteristics and Na+ content of the leaf in Sonneratia alba

The mangrove has a special salt filtration, thus salt tolerance mechanism. The photosynthate produced in the leaf is transferred to each organ and used for the salt tolerance process. In this report, we examined the gas exchange characteristics and Na+ content of the leaf in Sonneratia alba, a high salt tolerance species. Sonneratia alba had the highest leaf photosynthetic rate as 20 mmol m sup(-2) s sup(-1), Rhizophra stylosas = 13 mmol m sup(-2) s sup(-1), Bruguiera gymnorrhiza = 8 mmol m sup(-2) s sup(-1), Kandelia candel = 15 mmol m sup(-2) s sup(-1), Avicennia marina = 13 mmol m sup(-2) s sup(-1). Nypa fruticans = 9.3 mmol M sup(-2) s sup(-1), and Lumnitzera racemosa = 9 mmol m sup(-2) s sup(-1). Na+ concentration in the leaf was higher in Avicenmia marina than other species due to the salt glands on the leaf.
