This report covers the survey of hunting which was carried out as part of socio-economic by the Kenya Indigenous Forest Conservation (KIFCON) Project. Its aim is to help the Forest Department set up modalities for cooperation with Kenya Wildlife Services. The objective of the survey was to establish a hunting activity profile and to obtain a clear indication of the extent of both in-forest and on-farm hunting in terms of number of households involved and the circumstances under which such activity is carried The survey was designed to provide a profile of the extent of hunting and trapping within and outside the reserve and trends therein, the areas where hunting and trapping are most commonly occurring today, the species being hunted and trapped, to what degree and in which locations, the success rate of hunting and trapping, the comparative frequency of use of trapps, bows and arrows, spears and dogs. To be established was the relationship of hunting and trapping in-forest and on-farm, the relatioship between hunting/trapping and other forest uses, to get a precise understanding as to who undertakes hunting and trapping within the forest and under what circumstances.
