The purpose of the papers in this publication is to provide early information on on-going activities and programmes and to stimulate discussion. This edition is the fruit of a process undertaken at the initiative of countries in the sub-region, towards a better consideration of the important but complex issues linked to forest genetic resources. Further aim of this publication is to supply foresters, researchers, scientists, managers and political and economic decision makers with elements of evaluation of the state of forest tree genetic resources, and appreciation of the relative values and level of importance attached to them at country and sub-regional level, on the basis of national preferences.
