Development of a Computer Program for Estimating Optimal Competition Index

The program (COMPIX), developed in this study was designed to automatically select the "optimal" competition index for individual trees in a forest stand. The program included a statistical analysis function that give statistical data for the sampling point. It contained also graphical functions, of which displays simple tree positions and images of competition status based on the competition index for each tree. To test the precision and reliability of COMPIX, data obtained by the forest survey were used.
