A study was performed with the aim to determine change of parathyroid hormone (PTH) level in cattle of different age, physiological status and different feeding patterns and comprised the period October 2003 - April 2004. Level of parathyroid hormone was measured in vitro by means of IMMULITE Analyzer (USA, Diagnostic Products Corporation), an immunometric assay. Cattle were divided into 6 groups according to age, physiological status and type of feeding: 1) heifers in-calf, 2) cows aged 2-4 years, 3) cows aged 5-7 years, 4) cows of 8 years and older, 5) cows of high productivity fed using mineral supplements and without them, 6) cows of low productivity fed using mineral supplements and without them. PTH level was determined thrice by analysing blood serum of healthy cows - 170 days before calving, 100 days before calving and immediately after calving. Higher PTH levels (P0.05) were found in cows of all age groups 100 days before calving. It was found that PTH levels were different (P0.05) in high productivity cows, which received mineral supplements with feed, in comparison with ones, which did not. Detected blood serum PTH levels in low productivity cows were not significantly different.
