The study was conducted at Agricultural Research Station,Dhodial, Mansehra during 1998-99. Four onion cultivars viz.`Swat-1',Mansehra Local. American Selection and `NARC-91' were used duringthe experiment. Experimental design was RCBD with six replications.Maximum value for average number of leaves per plant was observedin Mansehra Local (11.53) and minimum in American Selection (10.08).Maximum plant height was recorded in American Selection (51.16 cm)and minimum in `Swat-1' (46.88 cm). Maximum number of bolted onionplants were counted for `Swat-1' (8.5) whereas minimum for NARC-91(5.33). The highest weight loss percentage was recorded in `NARC-91'(40.68%) and the lowest in `Swat-1' (28.97%). Maximum rotteningpercentage was recorded in `NARC-91' (20.05%) and minimum in `Swat-1' (8.95%). Sprouting percentage was highest (15.77%) in MansehraLocal and the lowest in American Selection (10.57%). AmericanSelection produced maximum yield (41.57 tons/ha) while `NARC-91'produced minimum (31.13 tons/ha).
