Hydrolysis of a fungicide, buprimate by indigenousAchromobacter species

A soil bacterium (CMG500) capable of degrading a fungicidebuprimate (Nimrod), was isolated from vegetable fields and identifiedas Achromobacter species. It harbors a catabolic plasmid pN53. Theisolate was resistant to streptomycin, penicillin, and ceferozone. Thestructure of the degraded product was elucidated using massspectra, U.V. and N. M. R. It was found that the fungicide buprimate(5-Butyl-2-ethyl amino 6-methyl- 4 pyrimidyl dimethyl sulfamate wasconverted into 5- Butyl-2 ethyl amino 6- methyl-4-pyrimidinol byAchromobacter species. Hydrolysis of buprimate fungicide resulted inthe removal of dimethyl sulfamate group. The degrading genes forbuprimate were present on a conjugative plasmid pNS3.
