Effect of different nursery transplanting techniques and nitrogenlevels on growth, yield and quality of fine rice (Basmati-2000)

The experiment was conducted at the Agronomic Research Area,University of Agriculture, Faisalabad during the year 2002. There weretwo factors (A) Planting methods viz.; P1-Manual transplanting, P2-Parachute technology (B) Nitrogen level viz., N0 (control), N1 (25 kg ha-1), N2 (50 kg ha-1), N3 (75 kg ha-1), N4 (100 kg ha -1), N5 (125 kg ha-1) and N6 (150 kg ha-1). The nitrogen levels have significant effect illalmost all the cases. N5 and N6 were significantly higher in plant height(116.05 and 116.55 cm respectively). N5 treatment produced maximumnumber of productive tillers m-2 (184.27). Maximum leaf area index (5.17)was also obtained in N5. Maximum number of spikelets panicle-1 18.85)were obtained in N6 treatment. Maximum 1000-grain weight (21.87 g) wasobtained in N5. Maximum paddy yield (3.14 t ha-1) was obtained in N5and N6. Minimum paddy yield (1.48 t ha-1) was obtained by N0. Strawyield was maximum (18.65 t ha-1) in case of N6. Maximum harvest index(14.53%) was produced by N5. Results suggest that manual transplantingis suitable nursery transplanting technique and 125 kg N ha-1 isoptimum level of N fertilizer.
