Response of winter wheat on rates and dates of nitrogen application. Pt. 1. Development and yielding of winter wheat depending on time and nitrogen rates

Chrzanowska-Drozdz, B.
The effect of fertilization with nitrogen (doses and rates) on development, yield structure and grain and straw yield of winter wheat cultivars was examined in the period from 1986-89. The use of nitrogen was conductive to the wheat tillering differentiation of the yield structure and grain yield of wheat cultivars. Cultivar yielding, expressed in majority of wheat yield parameters and yield, was found to have been affected by nitrogen fertilization. The highest performance of Begra, Gasma and Weneda cultivars was recorded for the total dose of 120 kg N/ha: 80 kg N/ha spring reneval of growth and 40 kg N/ha beginning of shooting and that of Panda at 80 kg N/ha spring reneval of growth and 40 kg N/ha beginning of heading. The number of ears per 1 square m was a measure of yield whereas the number of grains per ear reflected the actual yield to a lesser degree
