Efficacy of applying full and reduced doses of herbicides in winter triticale

The experiment was carried out in 1994-96 on sandy soil to determine the effectiveness of three herbicides applied for weed control in triticale, cv. Bogo. The herbicides Protugan 500 SC, Lenitipur 80 WP and Chisel 75 DF were applied in spring - after vegetation began, in full doses combined with previous harrowing 7-10 days before application. The applied herbicides gave 71-77 percent of Apera spica-venti, but 35-58 percent of broadleaf weed control. Reduced herbicide doses decreased the Apera spica-venti 16-31 percent broadleaf weeds by 12-17 percent. The effects of low doses of herbicides were better in their application followed the harrowing. A significant triticale yield increase as compared to the untreated plots, was obtained after the application of all tested herbicides - by 8-10 percent. Reduced dose herbicides application had a similar effect only if the harrowing was applied. A significant influence was exerted by herbicide application on the length of ears, number of grain per ear and protein content in the grain
