Lichens as bio-indicators of urban environment pollution
Majewski, T. | Bystrek, J. | Podgorski, W. | Bryl, M.(Akademia Rolnicza, Lublin (Poland). Katedra Higieny Zwierzat i Srodowiska)
The influence of the environment on lichens expressed in numbers characterizing their biological activity is presented in tables. The least degraded environment (region A) showed a relatively weak effect on condition. Viability coefficient for cells (f) in this region amounted to 0.96. The results make it possible to confirm the opinion suggested by (2,4,5,7,13) that lichens can be useful as bio-indicators of environmental pollution. Numbers of live cells after exposure expressed as viability and atrophy coefficient were adequate to the environment degradation classification. Survival of lichen cells is determined by the level environment degradation. Atrophy coefficients decreased along with the level of environment degradation
