The effect of green manures with papilionaceous plants on the dry matter, sugars, and vitamin C content of white cabbage and onion was examined. The effect of green manures was compared with farmyard manure in a dose of 25 t/ha. The cabbage cultivated after vetch catch crop contained the greatest quantity of total sugars. The onion grown after farmyard manure and a mixture of vetch and field pea contained the greatest amount of dry matter whereas the cultivation of this vegetable after ploughing-down of the mixture of vetch and field pea also yielded the greatest amount of vitamin C
