The effect of drip-irrigation on the yield and content of organic compounds in fruits of three strawberry cultivars
Ostrowska, K. | Chelpinski, P.E-mail:[email protected]
An experiment concerning irrigation on the yield of three strawberry cultivars was carried out in the years 2000-02. It was established that irrigation improved the yield of the three investigated cultivars, increased the weight of one fruit by 15-20 percent, and delayed fruit ripening by ca. 5 days. Irrigation reduced the dry weight content and the content of total sugars but did not change that of organic acids in fruit flesh. The highest yield was obtained in the second year after planting. With regard to cropping, the highest was given by Elkat (58.3 kg per 9 square m) and the smallest by Elsanta (24.4 kg per 9 square m). Elkat also gave the largest fruits and Senga Sengana the smallest. The highest sugar content was noted in Elkat and Elsanta in the year 2001 and Senga Sengana had the highest acidity
