The aim of the present research was to compare the influence of four cover crops plants and six undersown crop cultivars cultivated on light soil in the Lublin region. The field research was carried out in the years 1993-96 at the Experimental Station of Bezek near Chelm (Poland). The static field experiment was carried out by split-plot method in four replications. The field experiment included four cover crops: winter rye, winter triticale, spring barley and oat, and six undersown crops and control: serradella, white clover, red clover, hop trefoil, white melilot, Dutch ryegrass. Winter rye and triticale were better cover crops than spring barley and oat as undersown crops, because undersown crops produced a higher biomass of the aboveground parts of plants. Dutch ryegrass, red clover, serradella and white clover produced higher biomass of aboveground parts of plants than hop trefoil and white melilot. On sandy loam soil in middle-east of Lublin region the following species of undersown crops can be recommended: red clover, serradella, Dutch ryegrass and white clover
