Allozyme study of ten populations of the brown planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens Stal (Homoptera: Delphacidae) was conducted. They were collected from the central, northeast and northern regions of Thailand. Nine of thirteen loci were polymorphic while four loci were monomorphic. All populations had the mean number of alleles per locus as 1.69 (+-0.13). The heterozygosity per locus (H) ranged from 0.105 to 0.174 and the proportion of polymorphic loci (P) ranged from 0.538 to 0.692 and the Nei's genetic distance (D) between populations of N. lugens ranged from 0.0003 to 0.005. This study found that the genetic distance (D) between populations were not corresponding with their geographical distance of capture and its was very low value that not significant enough to identify genetic variation between populations.
