Systematic study of the lichens family Parmeliaceae in Thailand

Family Parmeliaceae is foliose group of lichens. The thallus is generally corticate on both surfaces with rhizines frequently present on the lower cortex. Fruiting body called apothecia possesses lecanorine exciple by which the base of the structure for supporting ascus contain algae. The ascus has double layers or bitunicate fill with eight ascospores which are unicellular and hyaline. The specimens on soil, rock and bark were collected from 1994 to 1998 from various locations in Thailand. Identification of 600 samples from total specimens 2,000 samples are based on anatomy, morphology as well as production of natural substances by using spot test and Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC). About forty lichen substances are found in these specimens. Presently, the specimens are identified into 15 genera 55 species which are Bulbothrix sp., Canoparmelia sp., Everniastrum sp., Flavoparmelia sp., Hypotrachyna sp., Myelochroa sp., Paraparmelia sp., Parmelina sp., Parmelinella sp., Parmelinopsis sp., Parmotrema sp., Relicina sp., Relicinopsis sp., Rimelia sp. and Xanthoparmelia sp.
