Purpose of this research was to investigate that dried Pueraria mirifica tuber powder (PM) mixed with cooked cut rice or water could control the fertility of both sexes of pigeons or not. The project was divided into 4 experiments. The first experiment showed that both kinds of PM pronounced the oestrogen-like activity by using oviductal weight of the immature female birds as the indicator. The second experiment showed that both kinds of PM fed to both sexes of paired pigeons three days a week for 12 consecutive weeks could inhibit the courtship and mating behaviour of male birds and could suppress the testicular weight also. In female: PM could inhibit egg laying and inhibit follicular development. The third experiment showed that PM also pronounced the antifertility effects in both sexes of non-paired pigeons catched from Sanam Luang eat the PM-rice and drink PM-water normally. The Project was concluded that PM method may be a new method for pigeon fertility control according to its potent oestrogen-like activity and method of preparation of PM is very simple. Non-expensive and easy to use.
