To study a relationship between the potassium and calcium contents in seed leachates and the quality of large-seeded groundnut cv. Tainan 9. Groundnut seeds were allocated into 3 groups: Group 1, was subjected to accelerated aging using the temperature of 42 deg C, 100 percent relative humidity for 48, 96, 144, 192 and 240 hours. Group 2 and Group 3 were stored under control conditions (20 deg C, 100 percentRH), and under the ambient condition, respectively. Seed germination was measured both under laboratory and field conditions. Seed leachates were determined by their electrical conductivity, and the content of potassium and calcium. The results indicated that the prolonged of seed aging and storage periods increased seed deterioration. The electrical conductivity and the content of potassium and calcium leaked from seed were increased. There were negative correlation between the content of K and Ca leachate with the seed germination percentage in both accelerated aging seed and prolonged storage seed.
