Plant Resources of South-East Asia Programme has compiled and disseminated information on useful plant resources of the region. The programme is undertaken with cooperation between institutions within the region representing Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Thailand and Wageningen University of the Netherlands. South-East Asian region represents one of the most important plant resources of the world with the total number of more than 30,000 plant species. The efforts of the PROSEA programme aim at encouraging conservation and proper utilization of these valuable plant resources. In order to facilitate information search and dissemination of information, over 7,000 useful plant species are divided into 20 commodity groups based on their primary uses namely: Edible fruits and nuts, Dye and tannin producing plants, Vegetables, plants yielding non-seed carbohydrate, Medicinal and poisonous plants, Spices, Vegetable oils and fats, Stimulants, Plants with valuable exudates, Essential-oil, Ornamental plants and etc.
