Effects of aqueous extract from dried Pueraria mirifica leaves (PM) on reproduction and the side effects on both sexes of mice for 4 months were investigated. The results showed that oral administration of PM to mice at the dosage of 200 and 400 mg/day could significantly decrease the weights of seminal vesicle, prostate gland and eididymal sperm density but had no effect on the testicular weight and had 100 percent antifertility effect in the female mice. PM 400 mg/day pronounced the toxic effect to only male mice by causing abscess at the neck, penis and testes. Histologically section revealed that both dosages of PM caused reduction of sperm density in seminiferous tubule. The corpus luteum were observed and the width of endometrium and development of uterine glands increased. Moreover, both dosage of PM had the effect of decreasing the body weight of male mice.
