Plant analysis methods to assess soil fertility were studied. The investigation was divided into five parts : 1. Comparision of nitrogen content in plant samples digested by Kjeldahl and sulfuric acid hydrogen peroxide methods. Both methods gave similar nitrogen content in each sample. 2. Comparison of various digestion methods of plant samples for phosphorus content determination. The results indicated that these methods showed no different in phosphorus content in each sample. 3. Comparison of various digestion methods of plant samples for potassium content determination. The results indicated that these methods showed no different in potassium content in each sample. 4. Comparison of techniques for ammonium-nitrogen (NH+4-N) content deter-mination from plant samples degested by Kjeldahl method. The results indicated that the contents of NH+4-N determined by manual and automated colorimetries were similar. 5. Comparison of calcium contents in plant samples determined by atomic absorption spectroscopy when supplementing with various concentration of lanthanum. The samples tested were corn straws, rice straws, grasses, oil palm leaves, sesbania rice grains, corn grains and peanut grains. It was shown that the plant samples prepared in the presence of La gave higher Ca content than those in the absence of La.
