Contents of heavy metals in flowers of elder (Sambucus Nigra L.)

Contents of mercury, cadmium, lead, nickel, copper, manganese, iron, zinc and chromium in inflorescences of elder noble cultivars ("Alleso", "Sampo" and "Samyl") and wild growing form appearing in two diffeent habitats was determined. It was established that flowers of noble cultivars of elder showed different ability of elements cumulating. The highest levels of copper among the noble cultivars were found in flowers of "Sampo" and "Samyl" cultivars (15,7 and 14, 8 mg/kg of dry mass respectively), while the lowest one were recorder in flowers of "Alleso" cultivar (11,6 mg/kg of dry mass). At the same time, flowers of "Alleso" cultivar contained the highest mases of manganese (25,0 mg/kg of dry mass), iron (188,0 mg/kg of dry mass), zinc (32,2 mg/kg of dry mass) and nickel (4,26 mg/kg of dry mass). Flowers of the other cultivars ("Sampo" and "Samyl") had similar contents of those elements. Flowers of wild growing elder growing within the area of the city of Olsztyn, has a higher content of metals than flowers of the wild form growing in the experimental garden
