The productivity of modern processing plants for horticultural products is steadily growing. Whilst the products are washed and sorted automatically, they are still placed on the conveyor belts by hand. Since the gap between human performance and machine throughput is increas-ing, the interface between man and machine must be optimized in order to fully utilize the available machine capacity and guarantee a constant throughput. Based on the results of mo-tion analysis, the quantitative influences of selected economic and ergonomic parameters are shown for a model working place. Particular attention was paid to determining the optimal speed of the conveyor belt when products are placed on it. Further investigations with a higher unit number and working groups are planned.
