Efforts on polychlorinated biphenyls determination in soil were recently initiated in the Republic of Belarus. Since polychlorinated biphenyls are very stable organic compounds in nature, their analytical investigation is of great importance. The information on qualitative and quantitative methods for determination of total, group and component content of polychlorinated biphenyls in soil is presented. The procedure of determination consists of several stages: extraction with an organic solvent, concentration of the solution, clean-up and solution analysis. The experimental data on the composition of different industrial polychlorinated biphenyl mixtures are provided. The total composition of polychlorinated biphenyls is determined as a result of summing individual congener contents of the polychlorinated biphenyls mixture (when gas chromatographic analysis with electron capture detection is used) or as a result of summing the isomer groups (when gas chromatography/mass spectrometry analysis is used. The isomer group composition of some arochlors, condenser liquid and sovtol-10 is given
