Potential use of sexual pheromones in forest stand protection against gypsy moth
2005
Milanovic, S.(Institut za sumarstvo, Beograd (Serbia and Montenegro))
Gypsy moth is one of the most important pests in deciduous forests in Serbia. Monitoring methodology used so far has not proved efficient enough, so introduction of new methodology is required. Application of pheromones in forest protection in case of gypsy moth is possible both for monitoring of its number, and for suppression in cases of low number, but also for estimation of suppression effectiveness. Methodology of pheromone traps for monitoring the number of gypsy moth individuals has its advantages in prompt and early detection of populations that have potentials for outbreak. This enables the positive selection of areas qualified for treating and, consequently, reduction of expenses.
