Occurrence of leaf aphids in small grains

In some years during the 2000-2004 period, increased numbers of leaf aphids were registered in small grains. Chemical treatment was applied in the most severly affected areas. In addition to direct damage, aphids are vectors of Barley Zellow Dwarf Luteovirus. Under the local conditions in Serbia, the dominant aphids species are the English grain aphid (Sitobion/= Macrosiphum/ avenae) and the Bird cherry-oat aphid (Rhopalosiphum padi).
