Phenotypic and genotypic correlations of morphophysiological traits and yield components of protein sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.)

In order to determine variability of sunflower yield components, their correlations and heritability in broad sense, twelve genotypes originating from different regions were studied. Results for plant height, number of leaves and dynamics of leaves senescence, total leaf area, head diameter, mass of 1000 seed, hull content, seed yield per plant, oil content and protein content in seed, were analyzed by means of variance and covariance analysis. Varieties and years had a significant effect on expression of all traits. Interaction variety x year was also significant, except for hull content in seed. Seed yield per plant had the highest genotypic and phenotypic coefficient of variation. Genetic correlations between seed yield per plant and the other investigated traits were not highly significant only for mass of 1000 seed, hull content and protein content in seed. Phenotypic correlations were highly significant for plant height, head diameter, oil content, leaf area and number of leaves in fourth termin measuring. The ecological correlation coefficient was only significant for mass of 1000 seed. All yield components had high heritability values.
