Efficiency of weed control by herbicides in poplar (Populus sp.) nursery production
2006
Vasic, V.
The thesis presents the results of a two-year research of herbicide efficacy in the control of weed vegetation in the production of poplar seedlings. Aiming at the most successful control of weed vegetation, instead of individual herbicides, combinations of the herbicides were applied: pendimethalin + prometryn, acetochlor + prometryn, acetochlor + azafenidin, acetochlor + metribuzin, dimethenamid + linuron, except the herbicide oxyfluorfen which was applied individually. During the vegetation period, the rooting and development of poplar cuttings was monitored, and at the end of the vegetation period seedling heights and diameters were measured. The herbicide combinations showed a high efficacy in the control of weed vegetation, in contrast to the herbicide oxyfluorfen which was applied individually and as such it had the lowest efficacy at all localities during the study years. By the combination of two active ingredients a considerably better effect was achieved in the suppression of both broadleaved and narrow leaved weeds. The study herbicides did not have a phytotoxic effect on poplar seedlings except the herbicide metribuzin, which was applied in combination with the herbicide acetochlor on the soil of a lighter particle-size composition, which was reflected on the rooting percentage. The study herbicides did not affect the diameter and height increment of poplar seedlings.
