Speleological discoveries of mammal remains from caves in eastern Serbia [Serbia and Montenegro]

Caves and other karst phenomena are numerous in Serbia, and especially in Eastern Serbia. In the course of the recent speleological recognition in the area mammal remains are collected from the surface of Samar, Popsicka, Petrlaska and Jezava caves, including bones of small and large mammals if Holocene and Pleistocene age - insectivores, chiropters, rodents, carnivores and ungulates. A part of the scull, of a year and a half old cave bear (Ursus pelaeus) who died from serious pathological disorder was found in Petrlaska cave. This finds of animals remains in these caves contribute to the value and complexity of these caves and add one more reason for their care and protection.
