The mountains of Prokletije are situated on the South-East of the Republic of Montenegro (Serbia and Montenegro). The soil was sampled from the area of 70 square km to determine the content of trace and heavy metals in it (Mn, Fe, Zn, Co, Ni, Cr, Pb, and Cd). Heavy metals might be very serious environmental polluters, concerning their toxic effect on the growth of plants and animals. We found the average content of heavy metals in the examined area, below the MAC, so we could speak in terms of normal geochemical content of heavy metals in the mountains of Prokletije (Zn 57.5-143.0 ppm, Cu 8.0-43.0 ppm, Ni 24.0-43.5 ppm, Cr 5.0-27.0 ppm, Pb 22.5-46.5 ppm, and Cd 0.1-0.35 ppm). Natural resources of Montenegrin Prokletije are not damaged at present by the industrial or any other human activity.
