Natural potentials of Vlasina lake as a base od ecotourism development [Serbia]

One of the region in Serbia, where favourable conditions for development of ecotourism, as a new world concept in tourism, which mainly decreases risk of exaggerated exploatation of touristic attractive regions exists, is Vlasina lake. This water reservoir, at about 1200 m from the sea level is situated in southeast Serbia near Serbian-Bulgarian border. Although primary assigment of Vlasina lake in period of its building in 1949-1952 was production of electrical energy in the system of hydropower stations Vrla 1-4 this water reservoir, during the time begin to use in other, at the first place tourist purposes. It has favourable conditions for development of stationer, sanitary, school, youth and rural tourism both in winter and summer periods. Nearness surrounding mountains (Besna Kobila, Cemernik, Vardenik etc.) enable combination of mountains tourism and tourism on Vlasina lake region, which could be good base for qualitative tourist offer both on national and international market. Favourable climate, unpolluted water and soil, rich woods and grasses complexes are the primary natural potentials, which with corresponding offers of cultural, sports and other activities make base for ecotouurism development on Vlasina lake region. In this paper will be analyzed in detail physical-geographic characteristics of Vlasina lake with aspect of possibilities for their application in ecotourism development.
