Retrorespective study of camels respiratory disease complex in Afar region

A number of microbial agents are involved as a primary or secondary infection in camels' respiratory disease. Since the disease has multi etiological agents, this study focused on diseases having high spreading and contagious nature and due emphasis is also given to stress related diseases. On this ground the 4P diseases were taken as a priority problems and laboratory analysis were made on parainfluenza-3, pleuro pneumonia due to Mycoplasma spp, Pasteurellosis and PPR. Serological analyses have been done by Comparing the outbreak samples (1995) with the survey samples (1999)/ In this study parainfuenza 3 was found as a primary causative agent and Mannheimia haemolytica serotype A2 involved as secondary bacterial complication in CRD outbreak time (1995) Based on HIT result 70.5test sera were found to be positive for parainfluena-3 from 217 outbreak samples and 6.8from 545 survey samples. Regarding, the overall prevalence of pleuro-pneumonia due to MmmSc in Afar camels was found 12from 617 samples by CFT. All the positive samples re-tested by c-ELISA have shown the same result as to CFT. The antibody of PPR was found 4.33from 415 serum samples by using c-ELISA. So, it is high time to think about vaccine development against CRD from locally isolated micro-organisms.
