The influence of treatment with sulphur on phosphorus and iron reserves in the soil [Sicily]

Because an excessive supply of sulphur derivates can cause toxicity phenomena in soil, making the rizosphera "uninhabitable" or influencing nutritional balances with antagonistic phenomena, the present work studied the influence of the use of two sulphur-based compounds based on windy and wettable sulphur at different amounts (0, 500, 1,000, 2,000 kg haE-1) on pH and on phosphorus and iron reserves, the latter being elements sensitive to soil reaction. From the results obtained it was possible to discover how the acidification caused by sulphur oxidation to sulphate did not influence the reserves of phosphorus, while it stabilised the iron ion of the circulating solution. However, the soluble form of Fe++ caused a loss due to the washing away of a part of its own reserves. The typology of compounds was a decisive factor in induction of microbial activities, the windy compounds demonstrating a higher activity than the wettable one, for which, however, a less relevant response was recorded at the maximum amount (2,000 kg haE-1) than at lower quantities. It can be assumed that the higher amounts of windy sulphur can be subject to loss and/or aggregation phenomena, with a risk of pollution, and are, therefore, not feasible

Poiché l'apporto in eccesso di derivati dello zolfo può provocare nel suolo fenomeni di tossicità, rendendo inospitale la rizosfera e/o influire sugli equilibri nutrizionali tra i vari nutrienti per fenomeni di antagonismo, nel presente lavoro è stata studiata l'influenza dell'utilizzo di due formulati a base di zolfo, ventilato e bagnabile, a diverse dosi (0, 500, 1.000, 2.000 kg haE-1) sul pH e sulle disponibilità di fosforo e di ferro, elementi sensibili alla reazione del suolo. Dai risultati ottenuti è stato possibile rilevare come l'acidificazione determinata dall'ossidazione dello solfo a solfato non ha influenzato la disponibilità del fosforo, ma reso stabile lo ione ferroso della soluzione circolante. Tuttavia, la forma solubile di Fe++ è stata causa di una perdita per dilavamento di parte delle riserve dello stesso. La tipologia del formulato è stata determinante per l'induzione delle attività microbiche, mostrando un'attività maggiore il formulato ventilato rispetto al bagnabile, per il quale, tuttavia, la dose massima presa in considerazione (2.000 kg haE-1) ha fatto registrare risposte meno rilevanti rispetto alle dosi più basse.
