English. Wheat grain traits determine the end use quality and thereby economic value of wheat. Deciphering the genetic factors governing grain size is an important wheat breeding objective. To detect putative QTLs (pQTLs) controlling grain shape and size, a recombinant inbred line population (F6) of 113 individuals was developed from a cross between Rye Selection 111, an Indian genetic stock with introgression of genes from rye, and Chinese Spring. The 113 lines were genotyped with PCR based markers and evaluated for four grain shape traits namely, grain length, grain width, grain weight and form density. Transgressive segregants were observed for all the traits and genetic correlation studies indicated that all these traits are positively correlated. The number of markers associated with pQTLs for each trait ranged from 3 to 10 and the percentage of phenotypic variance explained by each pQTL-associated marker ranged from 2.6 to 14.6%. Many pQTLs were shared by all the traits, indicating probability of either pleiotropic effect of a single QTL or their linkage. The genetic basis of these traits and utility of the identified markers in wheat improvement programs are discussed

La decifrazione dei fattori genetici che controllano la dimensione della granella è un obiettivo importante del miglioramento genetico del frumento. Per determinare i QTL putativi ((pQTL) che controllano la forma e la dimensione della granella, è stata sviluppata una popolazione consanguinea ricombinante di linee pure (F6) costituita da 113 individui a partire da un incrocio fra Rye Selection 111, un materiale genetico indiano con introgressione di geni dalla segale, e Chinese Spring. Le 113 linee sono state genotipizzate con marcatori PCR e valutate in rapporto a quattro caratteri relativi alla forma della granella e, precisamente, lunghezza, larghezza, peso e densità. Sono stati osservati segreganti trasgressivi per tutti i caratteri e gli studi sulla correlazione genetica hanno indicato che tutti questi caratteri erano correlati positivamente. Il numero di marcatori associato ai pQTL per ogni carattere variava da 3 a 10 e la percentuale di varianza fenotipica spiegata da ogni marcatore associato a un pQTL variava dal 2,6 al 14,6%. Molti pQTL erano condivisi da tutti i caratteri, indicando la probabile esistenza o di un effetto pleiotropico di un singolo QTL o della loro concatenazione. Sono discusse la base genetica di questi caratteri e l´utilità di questi marcatori nei programmi di miglioramento del frumento.]
