Trials of dune stabilisation actions on the coastal area between Punta Penna Grossa e Torre Guaceto (BR) [Apulia]

An experimental study was conducted on sample areas in the coastal reach between Punta Penna Grossa and Torre Guaceto (BR) locations, to identify the dynamics of re-establishment of parts of vegetation taken in situ, using species belonging to primary and moving dunes. Trials were based on the re-introduction of some ex situ propagated species and of other species for which seeds and/or portions of the rhizome were taken at the beginning of the trials. Four trials were arranged using apical cuttings of Otanthus maritimum (1st trial), rooted cuttings of Otanthus maritimum with a mean length of 32 cm (2nd trial), a mixture of rooted cuttings of Otanthus maritimum, portions of the rhizome of Sporobolus pungens, seeds of Eryngium maritimum (3rd trial - simulation of primary dune), a mixture made of Pancratium maritimum seeds, portions of Ammophila arenaria rhizome, Eryngium maritimum seeds (4th trial - simulation of moving dune). The results showed a more effective establishment of Otanthus maritimum cuttings as compared to the rooted ones (1st and 2nd trial); in the case of the 3rd and 4th trial, it would be better to modify the proportions of the material of single species to promote a more balanced establishment of them

E´ stato condotto uno studio per un tratto di costa compreso tra Punta Penna Grossa e Torre Guaceto (BR), per individuare la dinamica di reinsediamento della vegetazione prelevata in situ di specie appartenenti alle dune embrionali e mobili (Ammophila arenaria, Eryngium maritimum, Otanthus maritimum, Pancratium maritimum, Sporobolus pungens). Una prova prevedeva la reintroduzione di una specie propagata ex situ, mentre le altre prevedevano l´uso di semi e/o porzioni di rizoma prelevati al momento dell´impianto. I risultati mostrano una maggiore efficacia di reinsediamento del materiale prelevato all´impianto; inoltre, sembrerebbe opportuno modificare le proporzioni del materiale delle singole specie per promuovere un più equilibrato insediamento
