Planning of utilizations in abandoned woods [Trentino]

Inside a forest district in Trentino (Italy), the construction of a new forest road for protection against fire purpose allows to start again the selvicultural activities in coppice woods otherwise not manageable. The effective planning of the forest utilization allows to optimize the productivity in relation to the yarding system and the value of the material, to reduce the costs and to reach the pre-arranged wood mass. The analysis of the characteristics of the territory through GIS tools shows as optimum the use of a cable crane yarding method; the number and the best arrangement of the cable lines are therefore defined in relation to the equipment at disposal and the allowed mass of wood, trying also to optimize the installation costs

[In un´area forestale del Trentino, la costruzione di una nuova strada forestale per la protezione dagli incendi consente di riprendere le attività selvicolturali in boschi cedui non altrimenti gestibili. La pianificazione efficace dell´utilizzazione forestale consente di ottimizzare la produttività in relazione al tipo di cantiere e al valore del materiale, per ridurre i costi e ottenere la massa legnosa prefissata. L´analisi delle caratteristiche del territorio mediante strumenti GIS porta a identificare come ottimale la scelta di un sistema di esbosco su fune mediante gru a cavo; vengono perciò definiti il numero di linee e la loro migliore collocazione in relazione all´attrezzatura disponibile e alla massa di legno a disposizione, tentando pure di ottimizzare i costi di installazione.]
