PCR determined a case of canine haemobartonellosis. Showing fever and anemia after splenectorny as a treatment for splenic torsion. Subsequent analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequence revealed that the pathogen was Mycoplasma kaemocanis. The splenectomy was thought to have caused an acute onset of haemobartonellosis from a subclinical condition. The PCR and gene sequence analysis employed in this study are considered useful for diagnosis of canine haemobartonellosis.
